Duties

The owner of an independent wildlife store needs to know about local wildlife and how to help customers attract and enjoy it.  Wildlife store owners often teach their customers about wildlife and conservation through bird watching tours, special events, newsletters, and store displays.

Background and Education

Practical knowledge of wild animals, especially backyard birds, is important, plus awareness of conservation issues, local environmental groups, wildlife rehabilitators and others who could help meet the customers needs.  Listening to customers’ needs is one of the most crucial skills to develop.
