Duties

Field biologists study wild animals in their natural environments, looking at population trends, habitat requirements, behavior, and interactions with other species. Many use sophisticated technology, such as remote sensing satellite imagery, and spend much of their time on the computer analyzing data when not in the field.

Education and Background

Field biology assistants may need a basic science degree to begin gaining field experience,  but field biologists in charge of wildlife studies usually need advanced degrees and years of outdoor research experience.
