ABOUT THE TRAINING

The HSUS Disaster Animal Response Team (DART) is the premier basic training for animal disaster responders nationwide.  This 3-day course is designed to familiarize participants with disaster situations and provide the background necessary to become an effective emergency animal relief responder. The class includes two days of mixed classroom/hands-on instruction and a long half-day of specialized tabletop exercises. After completion of DART, graduates will have a basic understanding of disaster response for animals and will be in a position to help develop their own local DART teams.

· Incident Command System (ICS)

· Communications

· Taking care of the team

· Community animal needs

· Damage assessment

· Team response and procedures

· Emergency animal shelters

Students planning to attend a DART workshop should complete the following reading and courses:

· Read the Animals & Society Institute's Animals in Disasters: Responsibility and Action

· Complete the following free, online FEMA Courses:

· IS-10 Animals in Disaster, Module A: Awareness and Preparedness

· IS-11 Animals in Disaster, Module B: Community Planning

· IS-100 Introduction to Incident Command System, I-100

Students will be given an exam at the conclusion of the workshop.

Registration Fees

$115.00 per person (Early Bird Rate, on or before Sept. 19, 2008)
$125.00 per person (Regular Rate, before October 10, 2008)
Fee includes all three course days, materials, continental breakfast and snacks.

Register early! Space is limited to 60 (a minimum of 35 registrants is required).

Cancellation fee is 25% of the registration fee.
Please register no later than October 10, 2008.
No refunds will be given after October 17, 2008.

HSU reserves the right to cancel this workshop due to low enrollment or in the case of a major animal disaster response.

Certification

Certification of completion will be provided to those attending all sessions. Completion of this training does not constitute or imply membership on The HSUS National or Regional Disaster Animal Response Teams (NDART).
