Course Description

Most shelters have found it is not a problem getting people to help with animals. (For that we can be very thankful!)  The majority of new volunteers walking into a shelter are thinking, “What could be more fun than playing with puppies?"  What we will try to cover in this session of Volunteer Management is not to eliminate the enthusiasm of new volunteers, but to recruit the “right” volunteers for the “right “position and, hopefully, curb the revolving door of volunteers.

This 4-week course is part of the Volunteer Management Certificate Program.

Course topics include:

• Talent scout/HR approach
• How to get the right volunteers
• Screening volunteers
• Validating volunteer commitment
• Recruiting corporate volunteers

Class Format: Online

There are no scheduled lecture times; instead, you log on at your convenience to participate in weekly discussions and submit assignments. Expect to spend at least 2-4 hours per week reading materials, completing assignments, and discussing issues.
